Far North Adventure 2 – Rhumsiki

If you leave the Hollingsworths' house and go north-west for a bit and then south-west for a bit more, in a car with excellent suspension, you eventually come to Rhumsiki. Look – we were there!



The landscape is rather dramatic and includes the remains of long-extinct volcanoes. The name of the Mofu means 'People from the mountain'. This is the mountain they are said to have spread out from:



This is possibly also the sort of place people think we are when we say we are in Africa. Imagine it after the rains have come – lush and green.



The hills at the back, about 2 miles away, are in Nigeria. There's a lot of livestock moved between Cameroon, Nigeria and Chad (turn round, walk your herds for a couple of days, you'll be there), whether for markets or seasonal movements that have happened for thousands of years, long before anyone decided this side of the mountain was Cameroon and the far side was Nigeria.



Nonetheless, plenty of people choose to remain here and call it home.



With a little creativity, it can be farmed. Be careful not to fall off your field though!
